Growth Mindset
Unlock creativity, inspire fresh ideas, and transform your problem-solving with the power of innovation.
Your mind operates in two distinct modes — the Saboteurs and the Sage. Saboteurs are mental habits that hold you back, creating stress, self-doubt, restlessness, and unhappiness. Saboteurs limit your potential by keeping you stuck in familiar patterns, impacting your performance, relationships, and overall well-being. On the other hand, the Sage is the positive part of your mind that embraces creativity, adaptability, and openness to new ideas. When you access your Sage mind, you can approach challenges with confidence and positivity.
The Sage works through five main powers: Empathize, Explore, Innovate, Navigate, and Activate. Each of these powers helps you respond to life’s challenges constructively.
Innovate is the Sage’s power to create something new. It’s about thinking beyond the usual to find creative, effective solutions. When you tap into your Innovate power, you can challenge conventional approaches, break free from familiar ideas, and ask, “What’s a whole new way to do this?” This power is especially useful in fast-paced, changing environments where fresh solutions are essential.
Using Innovate allows you to think differently and expand your possibilities. It’s a mindset that helps you and your team discover new paths and develop solutions you may have overlooked.
Innovate is crucial when facing a complex problem that requires a fresh approach. Innovate can help you reframe the issue and find unique solutions if you’re working on a project that feels stuck. It’s also helpful when your team needs to adapt quickly and think outside the box. The Innovate mindset encourages you to ask, “What’s possible here that I haven’t thought of yet?” rather than focusing on what’s familiar or comfortable.
You can strengthen your Innovate power through simple, practical exercises.
Brainstorming Sessions: Set up regular brainstorming sessions where you and your team can freely generate new ideas. The goal is to go beyond existing assumptions and stretch your thinking. Allowing everyone to contribute without judgment encourages creative thinking and makes it easier to find unique solutions.
Prototyping and Experimentation: Create a culture of testing and refining new ideas. Encourage prototyping, where you try out an idea, get feedback, and make improvements. This approach allows for iterative learning, making it easier to see which new ideas work best.
These practices allow you and your team to access the Innovate power, creating an environment where creativity thrives and conventional limits fade.
Innovation can be challenging because Saboteurs like the Controller and Avoider often resist change. The Controller might feel uncomfortable with new or untested ideas, preferring to stick with tried-and-true methods. The Avoider, on the other hand, may hesitate to take risks due to a fear of failure. These Saboteurs can stifle creativity, keeping you locked in patterns that no longer serve you.
To fully tap into your Sage’s power to Innovate, it’s essential to recognize and quiet these Saboteurs. When you notice these thoughts or behaviors arising, take a moment to acknowledge them and shift your focus back to an open, creative mindset.
To practice the Innovate power, try the “Yes … and …” game.
When someone on your team shares a new idea, respond with “Yes, what I love about that idea is … and …” This approach keeps the conversation moving forward, building on each person’s input. Instead of evaluating or critiquing ideas right away, this exercise helps foster a sense of appreciation for all contributions and encourages further creativity. You can practice this game individually or in team meetings.
Innovation is essential for problem-solving and growth within teams. When team members use their Innovate power, they can communicate openly, develop new approaches, and build on each other’s ideas. Teams that innovate together are often more adaptable and resilient, as they view challenges as opportunities for growth.
Leaders who model creativity inspire their teams to do the same. A leader who embraces new ideas, encourages experimentation, and values creativity can build a team culture where people feel free to think outside the box. This openness allows for stronger collaboration and more creative solutions.
